Open Question: Does Progressive Auto/Motorcycle Insurance go to collections if you stop making the payments?
I got a bill in the mail, and it has “if” charges. Late charge of $5, and a cancellation fee of $50. The cancellation fee is kinda scares me out of just ignoring the payment (which I don’t want to make, since I am no longer in possession of the vehicle).
FYI: My other insurance agency didn’t go to collections. And I don’t pay the $50 because the due owed is less than that

Voting Question: What laws are in place concerning the procedures police and courts have to follow in an arrest?
2 years ago, I went to court to take care of a fine and I also had court coming up on an auto accident that I was involved with regarding not having my insurance card on me. It was the other person’s fault, but I got a ticket for it and the court date was coming up two days after I has already to appear in court for a fine that I needed to pay. I told the judge about the upcoming court date and we took care of it right there.
I have been to the court house several times since then to update my licences when I bought my house and for getting my motorcycle permit and never had a problem (meaning at that time there was no warrants for my arrest), but the other day, police came to my house with the entent of arresting me while I was up at the store for missing that other court date. They searched the house and while telling my wife that they just wanted to have me sign something. Under the guise of looking for me, went through the clothes drawers in all the bedrooms excluding my daughters (places that a 6’7 man of 230 pounds could not hide) and at the end told her that she would be arrested for harbouring a fugitive if she did not turn me in when she saw me, and said that they were going to stake out the house and if they saw me that we both would go to jail and that our daughter would be put in Child Protective Custody upon arrest. They were lying throughout the time that they were in my house about all the consiquences that we were going to have to face and about what they were there for and basicly trying to shake us down for the money that they said we owed them for the missed court date. (this whole thing is about $300 that they say we owe for this mess up on their end) We have no criminal records and have never been in court for anything over a traffic violation and this seems like should not be legal for someone to do, regardless of their job title.
I know that they didn’t pull my file when they issued this warrant to see if this was taken care of, and I know that the warrant was not issued on the day of the alledged missed court, for the fact of my appearances down there several different times; how can they just take someone’s freedom away, regardless of time period, when they are not willing to do the research and make sure that there was even a crime commited?
Second, if police are here to protect the people, what gives them the right to act like common thugs, threatening good people and scaring them, violating right of privacy, and bold face lying to people that are innocent until proven guilty!?!
Please help!
