Open Question: Responsibility of owner, registrant and insurance holder for auto liability?
I am wondering who holds the most responsibility for an auto – the owner, the person on the registration or the person with the insurance policy. Assuming that these people are all different.
More specifically, if I have a car on my insurance policy which is owned by someone else and registered to that person am I legally responsible as the policy holder?

For the past 4 years I have been paying around $85 / year for my motorcycle insurance. I had an accident with my Truck in Nov.07 but that did not effect my new rate last year (well it went up about 5 bucks). A few months ago I received a letter from Arrowhead Insurance here in New York who took over NOVA in 2006/2007. They said that I must add my sister and wife. When I called and discussed that my sister lives in the upstairs apartment they allowed her not to be added, but said my wife must be listed as a “rated driver”. I explained that she cannot legally drive the motorcycle (no license, only an auto license) but they said they had issues in the past with that. After argueing for awhile, I decided that it probably wouldn’t hurt the price too much anyway and let it go. I received my renewal notice last week and it went up 3X MY NORMAL RATE!!! I’m just wondering how they can get away with this, wouldnt’ the case be that if my wife did drive the vehicle illegally the company would be protected from any liability anyway?
Voting Question: How does workers comp affect my BI claim in an auto accident?
I was recently involved in an auto accident where the other party was determined to be at fault. I was operating a work vehicle in the course of employment at the time of the accident. I suffered a knee injury due to being broadsided on my driver’s side door where my knee was located at the time of impact. This accident occurred in the state of California.
I understand that my worker’s comp insurance (through my employer) will present a lien for all of their specials paid. If the total value of my general damages exceeds the at fault party’s liability coverage, who has the right of first recovery? Do I collect my general damages first, or am I obligated to repay the worker’s comp lien?
Would my personal auto policy’s UIM coverage act as excess if the at fault party has minimum limits?
Finally, does my compensation for general damages by the at fault party’s insurance company affect worker’s comp damages if there is a permanent disability?
Sorry, there are a lot of questions. The WC portion of this is beyond my expertise. Thanks.
