Hawaii holds much splendor in this vastly unpopulated realm. In the middle of the ocean lies several of these isolated clusters. There is the Big Island, largely volcanic but with, of course, its own great beauty, along with Oahu, which is perhaps the most popular, a beach party town, for sure. Then there is Maui, often referred to as the one for lovers, as many get married here. Kauai travel is especially wonderful, because this place is very appropriately labeled as the garden isle.
You will quickly see why this place has been given its nickname. Lush vegetation and flowers will surround you wherever you go in this beautiful Eden. Various delicious fruits are grown on this island, such as lemons, limes, and lychee nuts, papayas, mangos and bananas. In fact, there are many farmers markets around that sell these wonderful bountiful crops.
And visit some local restaurants, where you will find the catch of the day. Meals are specially prepared using the local fish, such as MahiMahi, which is also known as dolphin fish, but it is not a dolphin, and the taste is like that of flounder. Ahi is known for its use in sashimi. And Ono, also called Wahoo, is slightly sweet in flavor, the name itself meaning something delicious.
Amongst the many tourist sites is Waimea Canyon Drive. The road leads upwards, twenty miles up, and the changes in weather will astound you. From desert like, hot conditions, to a cooler, forest climate. It is truly something for the visitor to experience!
Conducive to the locale spa atmosphere, there are spas outdoors as well as indoors, creating a very natural feel. A wonderful one, called the Anara, is set in a park-like area surrounded by flowers.
Your vehicle of choice need not be a 4-wheel drive, unlike what some will suggest. Most of these roads have enough traffic to keep them safe and easy to navigate. You can rent one either at the airport, or on the outskirts of town for a cheaper rate.
And as far as insurance is concerned, the rental offices will try to sell you temporary insurance, but the fact of the matter is that you may already have it in your permanent policy. Check on this, before you purchase insurance that is not needed. You can also expect to pay more for gas than the average prices in the States. The seat-belt law is strictly enforced, and watch for pedestrians as jay-walking is a common practice.
Other than that, enjoy the breathtaking views and other tourist sites, which are very obviously marked on the roadways for your convenience. And do not worry about the rain, it will always leave a lovely rainbow!
